Now that the Steelers are entering their bye week, they are halfway through the regular season. They are sitting on top of the division standings with a 6-2 record. It is something many around the NFL did not expect. Perceptions around Pittsburgh were low entering the season, but things have changed in a hurry. The black and gold seem primed to make the playoffs and potentially make some noise.

A lot can change between now and the final week of the schedule, but Pittsburgh has a good path in front of them. If they can take care of business, despite facing a remaining schedule that isn't easy, then they should be able to win their division.

Those who have played well to this point in the season have currently earned a new contract with the Steelers, but they will have to keep that going.

Steelers could be shelling out some major contract extension

Dan Moore Jr.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the season thus far has been the steady performance of Dan Moore Jr. Everyone wanted him benched going into the year with Broderick Jones starting at left tackle and Troy Fautanu on the right side. Injuries and poor performances kept Moore in the lineup, and it has gone well for him. Since Jones has been a disaster this year, the Steelers should consider re-signing Moore.

Russell Wilson

He might have only started two games for Pittsburgh before the bye week, but Russell Wilson is on track to get a contract extension. The offense has been on fire with Wilson in the lineup, and they have found a certain swagger along the way. He might not be the same player he once was, but he has started his time with the Steelers well. Wilson will need to keep this up, but he has earned another deal thus far.

MyCole Pruitt

An unsung hero on the Steelers offense has been MyCole Pruitt. No, he isn't a great tight end, but he has been a steady-depth guy who blocks well. With how much the Steeler's offense loves to run the ball with Arthur Smith at the helm, someone like Pruitt only makes things better. He wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to re-sign either. Seems like a slam dunk guy to bring back for Pittsburgh.

Donte Jackson

Since the Steelers won the Diontae Johnson trade, most of the success has come from Donte Jackson. His speed has brought a big upgrade to the secondary. He might allow some completions, but Jackson has been steady for most of the year. He has also played through a shoulder injury for most of the campaign. Jackson is someone the Steelers might have to offer a contract extension to.

Justin Fields

Wilson was listed earlier, but Pittsburgh will have to consider re-signing Justin Fields as well. He might not be a quality starter, but he proved that he can help a team win games. A lot of his potential contract extension with the Steelers will stem from his other offers. If he finds an opportunity to start elsewhere then he might leave in free agency. Having him and Wilson back next year would be terrific.
