The choice is officially clear for the Steelers and Shedeur Sanders

The time is now to bring him in.

If you have followed my draft coverage, you know that I was mostly against the idea of taking Shedeur Sanders in the first round. I never saw the ceiling that others seemed to see in him, and his play style doesn’t fit what I want in a quarterback.

Seeing him fall to the third round was shocking, considering many draft analysts had him as a first overall pick early in the draft process and a regular top ten pick in most mock drafts.

Rumors of his slide heated up the week before the draft, but his falling out of the first two days of the draft is nothing short of shocking. While I like the selection of Kaleb Johnson, taking a swing at quarterback when you don’t have one is a must.

Now, entering the final day of the draft, the choice has become abundantly clear on Sanders: the Steelers need to try and bring him in.

The Pittsburgh Steelers should make a move for Shedeur Sanders

Now, there is no guarantee that Sanders pans out. Simply put, I don’t think he has the traits to be an elite starter. That said, there are traits there, and he can exceed expectations. Using a fourth-round pick on him isn’t much of a risk at this point.

It also guarantees him nothing. While fourth-round picks typically are locked into a roster spot, you can easily move one from one sooner rather than later.

Does his dad cause issues? You can cut him. Does he bring a bad attitude to the room? Send him packing. Does he just flat-out struggle? You don’t have to keep him because of where he will go in this draft. Most importantly, taking Sanders doesn’t prevent you from taking a quarterback early next year.

It is rare to get a prospect like this at quarterback this late in the draft. Considering the massive hole at quarterback that this team has, Sanders has to be in play now on the third day of the draft.

We will know shortly where Sanders ends up, but the Steelers would be wise to try and bring him in. All risk is off at this point, and Pittsburgh can swing for the fences following a strong first two picks by the team.
