Creating an exciting offense has been a tedious chore for the Pittsburgh Steelers in recent years.

Their biggest problem has been their lack of weapons on their roster, particularly at the receiver position. They have tried adding free agents, acquiring players through trades, and, of course, drafting some in the NFL Draft. Few have been able to develop beyond their top offensive playmakers, and it has hindered the group.

With the addition of new offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio, mixed with Mike McCarthy calling plays, the Steelers need more talent at the wide receiver position. Expect them to overhaul that group between free agency and the NFL Draft. They need high-level players who can help alleviate pressure off of DK Metcalf. Their newest offensive coordinator might have connections to consider.

His time with the Minnesota Vikings should have opened some connections during his time with the team. He should have learned from strong offensive minds on the coaching staff, while also noticing which players are quality performers. Angelichio should have some interest in several of the Vikings' pending free agents, but Jalen Nailor stands out as a clear choice to follow him to Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Steelers new OC Brian Angelichio could beg to sign free agent WR Jalen Nailor

He hasn't found a consistent role in Minnesota, but Nailor could be the perfect free agent target for the Steelers. He has plenty of experience and has shown in the past that he can produce big plays. Angelichio would certainly love Justin Jefferson to join him in Pittsburgh, but that won't be happening.

Instead, the Steelers should target the affordable Nailor, who can help immediately.

Nailor is a former sixth-round pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. Despite his late selection, he has carved out a solid career for himself. Contract projections surrounding the receiver are affordable, something Pittsburgh will want to see in potential free agents. According to Spotrac's website, they project the veteran's next contract to be a one-year deal worth $4.73 million. That is a solid value for his play.

If the Steelers' new offensive coordinator can persuade Nailor to join the team, don't get your hopes too high. The pending free agent can start when needed, but is best viewed as a fourth option on a strong offense. Pittsburgh would need to do more work beyond signing Nailor this offseason.

All signs continue to point to the organization searching for as much talent as possible.

Nailor is coming off a season where he produced 444 yards and four touchdowns off of only 29 receptions. He has shown a nose for the end zone over the past two campaigns, striking gold 10 times during that stretch. Angelichio would certainly pound the table to get this receiver to the Steelers. He is a playmaker who can help start games when needed and play a significant role.
