The idea of the Pittsburgh Steelers investing in Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence may be too late for the organization. Rumors about the Steelers seeking their next franchise quarterback have been circulating for months, with the team reportedly scouring every possible avenue for a solution.

Whether exploring free agency or looking ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh’s search has yet to yield the type of quarterback they need to push for a championship.

Now, as discussions intensify surrounding a potential trade for Lawrence, it’s clear that the Steelers are desperate for a gunslinger—perhaps too desperate.

Lawrence, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has shown flashes of brilliance in his first few seasons with the Jaguars. However, his performance in 2024 raised some serious concerns. Through 10 games, Lawrence threw 11 touchdown passes, but his seven interceptions, many of which came in crucial situations, revealed a troubling pattern of inconsistency.

Additionally, his 2,045 passing yards marked a career low, indicating a lack of growth in a critical year. While Lawrence has had his moments of promise, his inability to take the next step has been alarming, especially for a player many pegged as a future superstar.

Trevor Lawerence is not worth any of the Steelers' high value 2025 draft picks

This is where the Steelers’ interest in Lawrence becomes problematic. The team has had a long history of cultivating strong quarterbacks, but they have yet to find a true successor to Ben Roethlisberger, leaving them to search high and low for that next franchise playmaker.

The idea of trading multiple draft picks for Lawrence, including the 21st pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, concerns fans. The Steelers are not new to making bold moves, but this one feels like a desperate attempt to fix a position that needs long-term stability.

Fans have long been yearning for a promising future, and offering high-value draft picks for a quarterback whose potential has yet to materialize feels risky. The Steelers need a franchise quarterback who can step in and lead them to a Super Bowl, not someone who has struggled to perform in critical moments.

The trade discussions with Jacksonville should give Pittsburgh’s front office pause, as the price for Lawrence may not be worth the gamble. While every team is looking for that elusive championship quarterback, the Steelers might be better served by continuing to develop their roster rather than chasing a dream that may never come to fruition.
