Is this really happening?

Just like last year, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers left Pittsburgh Steelers fans in the dark about his decision to join the team or retire. Last offseason, Rodgers didn't sign his contract and show up to the facility until June 5. This offseason, team president Art Rooney II and general manager Omar Khan insisted a decision would be made sooner.

Now we may finally have one.

Adam Crowley of 93.7 The Fan dropped a bombshell on fans on Thursday morning when he reported that Rodgers plans on being in Pittsburgh on Thursday night with the expectation of signing a contract.

Most fans assume Rodgers is still the plan, but after drafting Penn State quarterback Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and with new head coach Mike McCarthy vocally high on Will Howard, some quietly wondered if the team made new plans to move on. According to this rumor, that won't be the case.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be getting Aaron Rodgers back at any moment

If this report is true, Rodgers could be just hours away from inking a deal that would make him Pittsburgh's starting quarterback for the 2026 season... and fans will have mixed feelings about this.

While Rodgers' accuracy and ability to take care of the football make him the best remaining option to salvage this team's 2026 hopes, there's a justifiable fear that the aging QB won't be good enough to help Pittsburgh snap its nine-year drought without a playoff win.

Rodgers will turn 43 late in the 2026 season, and though he still possesses an impressive arm, he has already lost the mobility and play-extension ability that made him so incredible for most of his career.

Last year, Rodgers was dead last among qualifying quarterbacks in air yards per completion and time to throw. His 2.47 seconds per throw was the shortest in the NFL among QBs with at least 250 pass attempts (ranking 37th), per SumerSports.

The fear is that Rodgers—in his old age—won't want to hang onto the ball long enough to make plays. And he already seemed to be afraid of taking hits from the pocket.

Regardless, it sounds like Aaron Rodgers is going to be suiting up in black and gold for one more season, so we'd better get used to it. The future at quarterback is going to have to wait.
