No Regrets

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert headed to Indianapolis to take in the NFL Scouting Combine which started on Wednesday afternoon. Among other topics Colbert was asked about the Steelers’ decision to cut running back LeGarrette Blount following a Monday Night Football game where he walked into the locker room prior to the end of the game.

Blount passed through waivers and was of course signed by the New England Patriots; where he went on to win a Super Bowl. Colbert was pretty clear to CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson that the team didn’t have any regrets in cutting Blount, even after it left them without a viable backup for Le’Veon Bell.

NFL Veteran Combine not interesting

A few weeks ago the NFL brain trust decided it might get them a few extra bucks and more time in the national spotlight during the offseason if they were to give NFL veterans who were currently unsigned to a team a chance to work-out together similar to the NFL Scouting Combine for potential draft picks.

Kevin Colbert ain’t all that interested in watching a bunch of NFL veterans run 40’s or lift weights, according to Mark Kaboly of the Trib. Colbert explains that the more reliable tool to evaluate veterans based on what you think they could contribute to your team would be game film, and nothing else. Makes you wonder what kind of game film they watched on Cam Thomas to make them think he was going to work out?

If you love something, let it go, if it comes back, it should get at least 10 sacks a season

According to ESPN’s Scott Brown, the Steelers are prepared to let linebacker Jason Worilds hit the free agency market on March 10th as they feel they won’t be signing him to a long-term deal before that point. Kevin Colbert said the team is unlikely to tag Worilds with either the franchise or transition tag, which would let them match any offer he could get in free agency.

"“He understands that if he doesn’t get tagged, which we could still do, he will explore the market and see what is out there. We will stay in communication. Maybe he comes back. Maybe he moves on. But he’s been a good player for us and we would love to have him back if it all fits.” – Kevin Colbert"
