Thank goodness we don’t need a QB

ESPN’s Scott Brown took a look at the Steelers’ spot in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. They’re sitting at the 22nd spot and if you needed any further reason to rejoice about Ben Roethlisberger’s contract extension, you’ll definitely jump for joy knowing that we don’t need to draft his replacement when you take a look at the last quarterbacks to be drafted from the 22nd spot in the draft.

The hit list includes Johnny Manziel, Brandon Weeden, Brady Quinn, J.P. Lossman and Rex Grossman. Hilarious that the Browns drafted three of those guys in the last eight years. Manziel is the only one with any kind of shot to still make it as a legit NFL quarterback, and that’s being mighty generous to Manziel. Lesson learned: do not draft a quarterback at the 22nd spot, except if you’re the Browns, then you’ll probably do it anyway.

Heinz Field Update

Anyone who’s from Pittsburgh or lives in Pittsburgh knows that Spring is just another term for “Construction Season” in town. Once the giant piles of snow are melted away from all the parking lots, the seemingly never ending construction projects resume all across the area.

The Steelers are updating the status on the construction work at Heinz Field in the South Plaza that will add up to 3,000 seats. The Steelers communications coordinator, Burt Lauten, explains that the team has already begun notifying members on the season ticket waiting list who’ve been waiting for a chance a season tickets going back to 1995. The expansion will be wrapped up by the time preseason kicks off in August.

What is Jim Irsay on now?

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is on the NFL’s competition committee, the committee that votes on proposed rules changes each offseason. Ed Bouchette of the PPG explains that this offseason it’s the usual replay and playoff expansion rule change proposals that you’d expect and then there’s one proposed from Indianapolis that is a real head-scratcher.

They’ve proposed a rule to give teams a chance to score a nine-point touchdown. The proposal includes after scoring the touchdown and successfully converting a two-point conversion, the team could then be allowed to attempt a 50-yard kick for an extra point. For real. Somebody check Jim Irsay’s cup, I don’t think that’s water he’s drinking.
