Steelers News: focus, finding edge, camp check-in
By Kim Myers
The Steelers summer vacation is officially over. The players are checking into the dorms of Saint Vincent College to start the 50th season of Steelers training camp in Latrobe. While the Steelers are setting up their rooms with their TVs and pillows we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Sunday, July 26th.

Focus man
The Steelers extended the contracts of Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert just before training camp opened and actually synched the two so they’re now both extended through the 2018 season. Mike Prisuta quotes Tomlin on how the two are able to work so well together to provide such stability to the franchise.
"“I think we’re singularly focused. I think we’re similarly focused in that we don’t care who gets the credit. We don’t care where great ideas come from. We have a job to do, we appreciate input and we work together. He’s a good man to work with. Obviously, continuity is a good thing when it’s positive. It’s our job to make sure it remains positive.” – Mike Tomlin"
Finding the edge
Every team in the NFL would rather be the underdog than the favorite. That might go across sports too. It’s much better to fly under the radar and then end up shocking everyone than to have the weight of expectations hanging over your head before you even get going.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler points out how the Steelers have been picked to repeat as AFC North champs and have received a lot of accolades so far before the season has even started to get going. They arrive at camp ready to find their edge and not take anything for granted.
The team finished last season winners of eleven games and the AFC North division with a largely suspect defense thanks to the combined offensive efforts of Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell. The reality for this season is that they can’t expect or rely on a repeat or improved performance from those three without needing the defense to step it up as well.
Checking in at camp
Check out all the Steelers players checking in for training camp. Something about big guys carrying pillows and duffle bags just warms my heart.
