Pre-camp Special Teams

Bob Labriola of the Steelers Digest began a three-part position breakdown of the Steelers before training camp opens at the end of the week. His first installment features the special teams. As I explained yesterday in my Training Camp Preview; the only “special” part of the special teams is Shaun Suisham. Other than that, training camp will determine who will win the punter competition between Adam Podlesh and Brad Wing as well as who will be doing the return jobs for the Steelers this season. Dri Archer has been talked about in terms of returning punts, but he’s only done kickoffs in college.

Offseason quotes

ESPN AFC North writer Scott Brown is reviewing memorable quotes from Steelers players and coaches during the offseason workout programs before training camp opens. Jarvis Jones commented on what the addition of Joey Porter to the defensive coaching staff has meant to him and the rest of the linebackers.

"“I’m in his head every day, always asking questions, always trying to figure out the best way to do it. He’s always on my butt about just grinding. Not saying that I don’t push myself, but there’s always a next level and that’s what he’s brought to our whole unit.” – Jarvis Jones"

Running back Le’Veon Bell spoke about his blossoming relationship with free agent signing LeGarrette Blount.

"“He’s one of my better friends on the team now. Its crazy the relationship I built with him over the last couple of months. He’s a lot like I am, outgoing, more jokes. Dri [Archer] is the same way. It’s crazy how we all mesh together and get along.’ – Le’Veon Bell"

Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward described one of the Steelers 6th-round draft picks, Daniel McCullers.

"“He’s like Paul Bunyan. He’s huge. He’s thick but he’s definitely agile. I think we can get a lot out of him. His potential is out of the roof. It’s about getting him to the next level.” – Cameron Heyward"
