Tomlin pleased with first day of practice

Teresa Varley caught up with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin to go over what he took away from the first practice of training camp. Keeping in mind, obviously, that the team doesn’t put the pads on until Monday.

There was only one injury to come out of the first day of practice. Center David Snow, who Tomlin referred to as “Jon Snow” because he’s a “Game of Thrones guy,” left the practice field with a foot or ankle injury.

Camp Report

ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown gives us his take of Day 1 of Steelers training camp. His biggest take away was how good the wide receiving group looked. Ben Roethlisberger gave plenty of instructions while players like Justin Brown, Markus Wheaton, and Darrius Heyward-Bey made some nice catches. When the Steelers went 11-on-11 Brown notes that Antonio Brown and Wheaton were the starters with Lance Moore as the No. 3 receiver.

Ben snubbed?

Shortly before camp opened the Steelers announced that they would not be extending Ben Roethlisberger’s contract until next offseason. Roethlisberger has 2 years remaining on his current contract. Dejan Kovacevic of DK on Pittsburgh Sports thinks it’s a snub worthy of a hold-out from Ben’s side. Ben addressed the contract situation on Saturday at camp but only to say that he’s not letting it bother him and he has faith in the Steelers organization that the extension will get done next spring. Ben, for the time being, is only concentrating on playing football. This is something that I still don’t get. I realize that Ben has a valid reason to feel that he’s outplayed his current contract and is entitled to an extension. I don’t, however, feel that it’s necessary for fans and members of the media to take offense on Ben’s behalf for how the front office has handled Roethlisberger’s contract so far. Doesn’t make much sense to me, what do you think?
