Tate was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Houston Texans out of Auburn. He missed his rookie year following a preseason injury, spending the 2010 season on IR. He was with the Texans until signing as a free agent this past spring with the Cleveland Browns.
Tate was released by the Browns after eight games with a total of 333 yards on 106 carries and three touchdowns. He also appeared in three games for the Minnesota Vikings this season.
The move is expected to give depth at the running back position while Bell recovers from a hyper extended knee. His status for Saturday is still up in the air and Mike Tomlin explained in his Tuesday presser that Josh Harris will be the starting back in preparations this week.
To make move for room on the roster the Steelers released wide receiver Justin Brown.
What do you think of the new addition, Steeler Nation? Is Tate a good pickup to supplement in the running back corps in Bell’s absence?
