Steelers Offense Can’t Assume

The Steelers offense broke all kinds of franchise records this season and there’s no reason to think that they won’t improve going into next year. But, as ESPN’s Scott Brown reports, it would be dangerous for the offense go to into next season assuming they’ll be better because of their success this season.

Obviously the offense wasn’t perfect, so there’s no reason for anyone to sit back and be like, “Whelp, we nailed that. No need to work on anything this year.” They could definitely stand to improve in the red zone, particularly early on in games. Also I wouldn’t say that Martavis Bryant and Markus Wheaton aren’t nearly as good as they can become. Should be exciting to watch them come into their own.

Rooney and Mara back Goodell

The Mueller Report was released Thursday afternoon and in it the NFL basically clears itself of wrong-doing in the Ray Rice incident. Good for them. Art Rooney II and Giants owner John Mara released a statement in accompaniment to the report, backing their confidence in Rogeez. They identified the NFL’s “weakness” to defer to the criminal justice system when their players do awful stuff to people, but pretty much said that even though the evidence the public saw and heard to the contrary, the league never received any copies of the infamous elevator tape and deny a woman at the league office confirmed its receipt. Excuse me while I go puke.

Jones’ high expectations

Dejan Kovacevic of DK on Pittsburgh Sports had a one-on-one with Steelers linebacker Jarvis Jones about his first two disappointing seasons with the Steelers. His rookie year he barely made an impact and saw little playing time while this season Jones started strong but suffered a wrist injury in Week 3 that he was just not able to recover from completely.

Jones goes over how he deals with and thrives on the high expectations on him being that he was a first-round draft pick of two years ago. He also goes into what he’s learned from James Harrison and how he plans to make his third year with the Steelers, his breakout year. Let’s hope he’s right.
