Former Steelers WR Wallace Wants To Come Back, So Hilarious

There’s funny, then there’s dramatic irony.

For formers Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace, he’s so knee deep in his own buffalo chips, that he is either incredibly stupid or thinks that the rest of us are.

CBS sports reported via Jason La Canfora on Friday that the former Steeler deep threat expressed his interest in returning to Pittsburgh.

I’ll give you a few minutes to laugh this one out for a while. Just don’t hurt your hand pounding on the desk while doing so….

Mike Wallace’s story is not an unfamiliar one: A potential mega star in the making with a poor work ethic depends on his own raw undeveloped skill to make it in the NFL. He finds a team dopey enough to sign him to a long term deal worth a pretty penny.

Two poor seasons and walking away from teammates later, and that team is wishing they never heard the name of said “star” and begin to shop him around. Knowing their time is up, and knowing that it will be difficult to get a deal anywhere close to what was inked before, former “superstar” begins to leak interest in former team they gave up on.

Thus is the case with Mike Wallace. He is either incredibly stupid to think he has a place here in Pittsburgh and/or that the Steelers and Steeler Nation somehow did not fully comprehend what took place two seasons ago.

No one can fault for Wallace going where the money was. Problem was, he wasn’t worth what was offered to him.  The Steelers knew that. Fans knew that. It’s why everyone was happy to see him go.

He will probably receive a tenth of what he was getting down in Miami whenever he signs with a new team, possibly Oakland, Arizona, or New England – teams that have a knack of swooping in, collecting yesterday’s garbage, and making something of it.

Mike Wallace will not return to Pittsburgh. That sentence ending period can’t be big or bold enough. Wallace’s performance didn’t warrant the money. He dug his grave. The Steelers rewarded someone who had a billion time more potential – Antonio Brown. Any future Wallace had in Pittsburgh left when he left to go to Miami.

Like the twisted cynic that I am, I can’t help but relish the idea of Mike Wallace contacting Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert asking for his old job back. It won’t happen, but I do love what @thesteelersnat had to say on Twitter:

It would be easy to ignore him, and I’m sure that Colbert and Co. are better professionals than I am. But, wouldn’t that be awesome for it to hit the news wire that the Steelers offered Wallace the lowest possible contract in order to come back?

Because that’s pretty much how much he’s worth to me.
