A dedicated and selfless player on the field, Keisel was also a leader in the locker room. The Steelers might look to defensive end Cameron Heyward as a leader on and off of the playing field now that Keisel will no longer be with the team.
"“Brett has played a major role in our success during his 13 years in Pittsburgh. We appreciate his efforts and we are grateful for what he helped us accomplish, including two Super Bowl Championships. We will always consider him an all-time Pittsburgh Steeler.” – GM, Kevin Colbert"
A seventh round pick in 2002, Keisel was everything that the Steelers look for in a player. As important to Pittsburgh off the field as he was on it, Keisel will be impossible to replace. However, the Steelers do have some young talent along the defensive line that will have to step up to the plate.
Steelers fans will now stay tuned to see the fate of other veteran Steelers such as Troy Polamalu, Ike Taylor, and unrestricted free agent James Harrison. All of them, like Keisel, have had an enormous impact on the Steelers Franchise.
