The Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Odds Have Improved

Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers lack of free agency moves, other than getting running back DeAngelo Williams and giving Ben Roethlisberger a new contract, Bovada, an online betting website, has the released new Super Bowl odds for the 2015-16 season.

After the Patriots won Super Bowl 49 on February 2, the Steelers were at 25/1 odds to win Super Bowl 50.  Six weeks later and the Steelers odds have now improved to 20/1.

This improvement gives the Steelers the eighth best odds to win the Super Bowl.  They are ranked fourth in the AFC behind the New England Patriots (7/1), Indianapolis Colts (8/1), and Denver Broncos (12/1).

The Colts improvement from 14/1 odds to 8/1 odds make some sense based on what they have done over the past week during free agency . Frank Gore and Andre Johnson were added to the offense, while Trent Cole was signed to help the defense.

The Steelers odds improvement are an interesting move for the bookmakers, considering the Steelers have already lost Brice McCain, Brett Keisel, and Jason Worilds on defense.  Ike Taylor and Troy Polamalu likely won’t suit up for the Steelers next year.  James Harrison is a free agent and isn’t afraid to leave Pittsburgh.  Apparently the Williams signing and locking up Big Ben is the reason for the Steelers improved odds, but with a defense in transition with all the losses and the changing of defensive coordinators it doesn’t seem to make a ton of sense.

The similarities between the top eight favorites is that seven of the eight teams have great or very good quarterbacks playing for them.  Seattle, Green Bay, Dallas, and Philadelphia are the top four NFC favorites.  Sam Bradford, being the one questionable quarterback in the top eight due to his injury history.

The Baltimore Ravens (25/1), Cincinnati Bengals (33/1), and the Cleveland Browns (75/1) are all behind the Steelers in the AFC North as far as Super Bowl odds go.
