Josh Gordy

Gordy (age 28) has been with the Indianapolis Colts since 2012. He went undrafted back in 2010 and has played with the Jaguars and the Rams.

During his limited time with the Rams, Gordy showed that he indeed has some ball skills by recording three interceptions in nine starts. He collected two more during his limited time with the Colts (as a free safety at times) after being traded from the Rams.

Gordy is fast, but again falls into that all too familiar stature of smaller than ideal height (5’11”). He was bested by the taller and better Steelers WR Martavis Bryant last season (pictured above). He is ball hungry, though, and will play for the tip or pick rather than contain with a catch and tackle – much to his demise at times.

Believe it or not, this guy bested Joe Haden at the combine back in 2010 in all but one skills test. Like the most of the rest of the corners in this field of free agents, he has the skills and potential. The light just needs to get turned on for him to be truly effective.

Of all three, I think that Gordy makes the most sense. He can add depth to the corner position as well as the safety position should Mike Mitchell crap the bed this season once again.

These free agent potentials are not meant to start but to add depth. They either don’t have the chops yet to ask for bigger dollars, so any of them should come at a good price.  The Steelers would be wise to even add two to this mix.

If they get rid of Polamalu post-June 1st and save an extra $6 million to sign their draft picks, what else are they going to do with the money they have now? It all can’t go to James Harrison (wink, wink).
