Rooney no likey

Art Rooney II is preparing for the NFL Owners Meeting where he’ll vote on as many as 28 different proposals for rules changes present to ownership. From the way Bob Labriola describes it, it doesn’t look like Rooney is in favor of much of any of the proposals up for votes, particularly those involving potentially lengthening the time of games.

Rooney is not really interested in expanding instant replay if it means the games could end up being longer as a result of NFL head coaches being able to challenge or request replays more frequently.

"“In terms of what we see on the agenda so far, as you probably know, there are a lot of different proposals that have to do with instant replay. I personally am not really in favor of any of them. In general, I just don’t think we need to increase the number of interruptions we have in our game at this point. I think the instant replay system is working fine. Sure, it would be nice to have different and more plays reviewed, but you have to do that in the context of how many can you really fit into a game and not wind up with a four-hour game. If there are ways to improve the system, I think we are always willing to look at it. But in terms of increasing the number of plays that get replayed, I don’t think that’s the direction we want to go at this point.” – Art Rooney II"

March Madness Indeed

We can’t let college basketball have all the fun this time of year. The NFL has created their own brackets that won’t burn up after one day of games. They’ve set a bracket up to vote on the greatest game in NFL history. The four “regions” have different categories of games. Your Pittsburgh Steelers appear in three of the four regions.

The first round of voting has already completed, and our Steelers have advanced for each game. Under the “Dynasty Makers” category, the Steelers Super Bowl XIII victory over the Dallas Cowboys has advanced to the next round and in the “Crazy Endings” category, the 1972 AFC Divisional win over the Oakland Raiders (otherwise known as the Immaculate Reception Game) advanced. In the “Individual Heroics” category, the Steelers Super Bowl XLIII win over Arizona advanced.

Still no news

Along with shooting down proposals of expanding instant replay Art Rooney II was also busy this week still giving no updates on the status of Troy Polamalu, according to ESPN’s Scott Brown. The team is continuing to wait and see if Polamalu will decide to retire or play another season. Last week, Polamalu’s agent told ESPN that the team has given Polamalu the time and patience to decide his future out of respect for his time with the team and what he has meant to the franchise.
