Steelers Finally Get Every Draft Pick Under Contract

Typically, the Steelers sign their drafted players to contracts before reaching organized team activities.

It took a little longer than usual, but the Steelers finally completed the chore and locked in all of their 2015 draft selections to rookie deals on Saturday.

The final rookie to sign a deal? 7th rounder Gerod Holliman formerly of the University of Louisville.

It’s unclear why Holliman’s deal took so long, and further still why it went all the way into the week of OTA’s to do so.

No matter. Here’s the list of the rookies and the value of their contracts (minus Holliman as details have yet to be disclosed):

Bud Dupree – $9.22 million over 4 years, $8.63 million fully guaranteed

Senquez Golson – $4.00 million over 4 years, $2.22 million fully guaranteed

Sammie Coates – $2.91 million over 4 years, $631,516 fully guaranteed

Doran Grant – $2.77 million over 4 years, $489,012 fully guaranteed

Jesse James – $2.48 million over 4 years, $208,912 fully guaranteed

Leterrius Walton – $2.39 million over 4 years, $116,928 fully guaranteed

Anthony Chickillo – $2.37 million over 4 years, $90,484 fully guaranteed

Now with all the draft (and undrafted) picks with fresh ink on paper, the team and front office can now focus for the next two months on signing players who are entering the final year of their contracts.

Cameron Heyward and Kelvin Beachum are right up there as priorities, and we’ve talked about the crossroads the team is at with having to sign both by the end of 2015.

David DeCastro is another top player who has two years left on his deal (after being optioned), but it would be nice to lock him in sooner than later. The kid is only going to get better.

According to OverTheCap.com, the Steelers are sitting under the cap by a little over $10 million. I’m not sure if that’s going to cut it if they want to sign two of the three mentioned or all three. They are going to need to play around with funds a bit more if that’s what they truly want to do.
