Steelers Maurkice Pouncey’s Idea Of ‘Mature’ Is Severely Skewed

Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell will serve some semblance of a suspension to start the 2015 season.

Due to a lack of maturity and foresight on his part, Bell and then teammate LeGarrette Blount were pulled over and cited for a DUI and possession of marijuana.

That’s really the heart of the matter when it comes to Bell’s poor decision to put himself in the driver’s seat while under the influence of smoking.

He’s 23 (22 at the time of the DUI). I made a ton of stupid mistakes when I was that age. Some of which, I’m lucky to be alive after the fact. Then again, I wasn’t a sensation in the NFL either – shocker, right? At that age, time in my life, and where I was, I didn’t really need to be careful about larger consequences. Maturity only came in stages and in certain flavors.

But, once you reach a certain age, maturity can begin to pile itself on. Most people inevitably ‘grow up.’

Enter our wise sage on the subject, Marukice Pouncey. Yes, the young man who has worn a hat declaring the freedom of a convicted killer, acted like a complete jackass in public and on Twitter, and at least puts himself in places where he is accused of hitting people – that’s the guy giving words of wisdom about maturity.

"As the years come on, everybody is going to learn and grow. You come into this league as a kid, you’re going to understand that. They expect as soon as you get drafted that you have to act like you’re 40-year-old person and that doesn’t happen."

I’m not sure who should be more offended – the 40 and over population because that’s when you stop having fun, or that those under the age of 40 lack no sense of maturity.  Well let me tell you something, Mr. Pouncey, I know plenty of pretty cool 40 year olds who do some pretty immature things!

Excuse the general public for having high expectations of a high profile person let alone a young adult in general.

Maybe in a twisted way this is him trying to excuse his own behavior. He’s only 25 after all.

I know he’s not excusing Bell, and I’m sure it’s an over exaggeration when he throws out the age, but it’s a pretty dumb statement. And, I’m just having a bit of fun here.

Keep on truckin’, Maurkice.
