The Steelers are counting down the days until this painfully long preseason is finally over. While they prepare for roster cuts and mend the wounded we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Tuesday, Sept. 1st.

Suspension upheld

Martavis Bryant’s four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy was upheld after appeal. On Monday afternoon the Steelers released a statement officially commenting on the suspension of their second-year wideout.

"“We are disappointed in Martavis’ actions that has led to his four-game suspension. It is a disappointment to our entire organizations as well as our fans, but we will continue to support Martavis during his suspension. It is very unfortunate his actions have put our team in this situation to begin the year, but we are confident he will learn from his mistake and return in excellent shape in Week 5.” – Kevin Colbert"

Bryant is eligible to return to the team following their October 1st game against the Baltimore Ravens. I guess all that false hope that his suspension would drag out until next season was fleeting. Stupid move by Bryant, hope he learns from it.

The more balls, the better

There isn’t much to hype up about the final preseason game of the year. The majority of the starters will be in street clothes and the guys playing will be fighting for the final roster spots remaining. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reminds us that there is a storyline involved in this particular preseason finale.

Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams will be going up against his former team, the Carolina Panthers for the first time in his career. He told ESPN that he was having “mixed feelings” about going up against his former team but overall he felt his release went well.

"“I think it went really well. They let me go. I was hired by another employer two days after. I sense it went really well for me…Everything happens for a reason. The reason they got rid of me is there wasn’t enough balls to go around in Carolina. That was one of the things they told me. They told me I just didn’t fit in their cap situation. I went to a team that has enough balls for me and enough cap room for me.” – DeAngelo Williams"

Come to Pittsburgh. We have all the balls.

Let’s try this again

For the second time this preseason the Steelers announced a new kicker to their roster. Ray Fittipaldo of the PPG reports that the Steelers traded for place-kicker Josh Scobee with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Scobee had kicked for the Jaguars for the past 11 seasons and has an 80.8 percent field goal rate.

The Steelers gave up a 6th round pick for Scobee it was reported that the team was restructuring his contract as to not have to pay the $3.4 million he was owed by the Jags this season.
