Steelers News: Villanueva, Bell, Harrison

The Steelers are flying high off of a home win over the Arizona Cardinals. While they prepare to hit the road and keep building momentum against the Kansas City Chiefs we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Saturday, Oct. 24th.

Next man up

With all the talk about who might or might not start at quarterback on Sunday for the Steelers one important player and position might be overlooked. Teresa Varley reminds us that tackle Alejandro Villanueva will be getting his first NFL start on Sunday to protect whoever’s at quarterback’s blindside.

Varley has Villanueva’s comments about how he felt stepping in after Kelvin Beachum went down last Sunday with a season-ending ACL injury and how he feels about his upcoming NFL start.

"“I think I could have played better. When it’s your first NFL game a lot of the plays seem surreal and you truly haven’t been as involved in the game process. I could have been way more physical, I could have finished plays better. I know how to fix all of those things and I should have been more consistent on the field.” – Alejandro Villanueva"

Worry about the backfield

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggests that while the Chiefs may have a tough time game-planning for the Steelers this week without knowing for sure if they’ll be facing Ben Roethlisberger or not they’d be smart not to overlook the Steelers’ backfield.

The Steelers are more inclined to run the ball more without Ben Roethlisberger, as evident by Le’Veon Bell’s increased ball carries the last three games. If the Steelers offense wants to succeed with Landry Jones under center, the game plan should call for plenty of Bell and DeAngelo Williams to make that happen.

Did he get fined?

James Harrison got flagged for unnecessary roughness last week when he drove himself into Cardinals wide receiver John Brown just after Mike Mitchell had intercepted a pass in the end zone intended for Brown and was recovering from a collision he had with Steelers cornerback Ross Cockrell.

Harrison blocked Brown from touching Mitchell as the whistle hadn’t been blown yet and Mitchell hadn’t been touched by an Arizona player yet. Harrison explained after the game that he didn’t agree with the penalty for his hit and wondered if he would have to “raise hell” with the league if he got fined.

As of Friday afternoon, the NFL’s fine roundup indicates no fine was sent Deebo’s way.  Guess he’ll have to raise hell some other way.
