Steelers at Seahawks: Defensive Huddle

facebooktwitterreddit

Steelers defense shows it’s true colors in devastating loss to Seahawks. Let’s take a look at it. This is Defensive Huddle.

Okay. Now that all of my hair is pulled out, let me try to digest this poor defensive performance again.

THE GOOD:

-As we all now, our beloved defense has given up a lot of yards this season. You go back and look at any stat sheet, you’d think the Steelers lost most of their games, but they haven’t. The Steelers defense have only allowed 30 or more points twice this season. Once against the Raiders (35 points), and today against the Seahawks (39 points). The pass defense was obviously horrible today, but if you’re going to try to take anything positive from this game, I think this is it.

THE BAD:

-First off, our beloved defense gave up 436 total yards to the Seahawks. 100 yards rushing and 336 yards passing. Speaking of passing, our pass defense was awful. It seemed like Russell Wilson passed for 1,336 yards, not 336.

-In the second quarter with 12:27 left to play, Wilson finds a wide open Doug Baldwin for a 16 yard score. Like I’ve said before, defensive breakdowns happen here and there, but not as many times as the Steelers allow them.

-Okay. I like Antwon Blake, but the Steelers need to sit him for a few games, or for the rest of the season. He’s obviously playing injured, which is preventing him from making tackles properly.

-The Steelers need to make use of that corner they traded for, what was his name again? Oh yeah, Brandon Boykin. I mean, could Boykin play any worse than Blake? Since this is the last year on Boykin’s rookie deal, and since he probably won’t be back next year, I don’t see the harm in playing Boykin the rest of the year. Please Tomlin, play the man.

-The Steelers started four first-round picks at linebacker yesterday, and none of them came away with a sack. More importantly, our outside linebackers have got to play better. Guard David DeCastro had more tackles than Jarvis Jones and Bud Dupree combined. Yes, you read that right.

I think I speak for 100% of Steeler Nation when I say that we expect a better defensive performance against the Colts this Sunday.
