The Steelers are back to practice to prepare for their regular season finale in the hopes things will fall their way and they’ll live to see another week.

While the Steelers get ready to face the Browns we’ll be looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Saturday, Jan. 2nd.

Wonder of Tomlin tripped him on the way out?

More from Steelers News

The Steelers made a roster move

on Friday to start the New Year without receiver

Jacoby Jones

. The team released Jones and promoted safety

Ross Ventrone

off of the practice squad. Jones was signed earlier this season in the hopes he could jump start the return game but instead we watched him fumble damn near every ball that came in his direction.

Ventrone played in five games with the Steelers earlier this season and was released in October. He’s played mostly special teams in his Steelers career.

Tomlin’s seat is probably cool

We’re just a few days away from Black Monday where odds are at least 4-5 NFL coaches will be given their walking papers. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggests that in spite of an ugly loss to Baltimore last week, Tomlin’s seat is probably safe.

While the Steelers are looking at a possibility of missing out on the playoffs for the third time in the last four years, barring another clunker in Cleveland on Sunday Tomlin has had one of his best coaching years, according to Fowler.

Overcoming injuries and suspensions and what we all along expected to be a crappy defense, Tomlin has done a pretty good job this year, believe it or not.

Still looking for the sacks

Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree was named Steelers’ rookie of the year according to Ed Bouchette of the PPG but the team is still looking for the return on the investments they made on spending two first-round picks on outside linebackers.

Next: Steelers better than their record

Dupree has recorded four sacks in his rookie season and linebacker Jarvis Jones has five sacks in three seasons. The Steelers drafted the outside linebackers so high in the hopes to resurrect the pass rush. While the overall sack numbers are up this season, they aren’t coming from the outside linebackers.
