Steelers News: Boykin, Brown, Heyward
By Kim Myers
The Steelers draft picks have been made and the offseason workout program is in full swing.
Steelers season never truly ends for Steeler Nation so while the team starts to put in the work to prepare for the 2016 NFL season we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Tuesday, May 17th.
Released again
Brandon Boykin was one of the most talked about players last season for the Steelers. Not because of any spectacular moves he was making on the field but because after trading a fifth-round draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for him towards the end of training camp he curiously saw very little of the field until later in the season.
Boykin became an unrestricted free agent this spring and in March was signed by the Carolina Panthers to a one-year, $840,000 deal. Monday afternoon the team released him after less than two months on the roster. That’s like getting fired on your day off.
Maybe Boykin isn’t the answer to every question in the secondary.
He had a good run
Antonio Brown dazzles Steeler Nation on a weekly basis with his spectacular play and determination on the field. Brown delivers over and over again for the Steelers and he delivered on the dance floor each Monday night during his time with ABC’s Dancing With The Stars.
Brown had the full support of his teammates, coaches and Steeler Nation but was eliminated prior to the finals even as former Steelers receiver and past mirror ball trophy winner Hines Ward looked on from the audience.
Good news is now you can devote your full offseason attention to the Penguins and the Pirates instead of a dancing show. Win-win.
Football motivation
Last season people actually debated whether or not Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward should be able to miss a game if his wife went into labor on a Sunday. Yinzers are passionate about their players, even if they are fully entitled to have lives outside of the field.

Heyward’s son, Callen, was born just after midnight on Nov. 7th, the day before the Steelers’ 38-35 win over the Oakland Raiders, reminded ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Callen has given Heyward the motivation to be his hero along with being one of the city of Pittsburgh’s heroes.
