Pittsburgh Steelers: Two rookies set for action against Giants
By Edward Hunt
With the talent on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster, anyone can make their mark in 2017.
Coach Mike Tomlin said that healthy players will get a chance to prove themselves on Friday. This will be an especially good opportunity for two draft picks at key positions.
The outside linebacker position is thin at this point, and that means that T.J. Watt will get an opportunity to play with all the injuries at the position. Bud Dupree is making his way back from injury and joins Arthur Moats as the other two outside linebackers that should see a lot of playing time in the game against the Giants.
James Harrison is healthy, but you can’t expect him to see a lot of time considering his age and how the Steelers are looking to preserve him.
Another player that should see a lot of time in this preseason game is Joshua Dobbs. Dobbs is supposed to be the starter in this game after Ben Roethlisberger will be held out as well as Landry Jones.

This game is a great opportunity to get Josh Dobbs snaps in a football stadium in front of the cameras. Ben Roethlisberger is out with a minor ankle injury it seems, but it is probably mostly that he is too valuable to play in a first preseason game.
The Steelers will want him to get the minimum amount of snaps to protect him from injury and wear and tear. They will only want to play him enough to get him ready for the upcoming season. Landry Jones will be out with an abdominal injury it looks like.

We only have to go back a few preseasons to see how much the Steelers value getting young quarterbacks repetitions in games. As Landry Jones was a young player, the Steelers used the first and fourth games extensively to get him the snaps he needed to develop.

Preseason snaps are the closest thing to getting NFL experience. Something Dobbs and Watt will want to take advantage of.
