Pittsburgh Steelers Film Room: Linebacker Fred Warner
The Negative Traits
Warner has a hybrid safety/linebacker build to him. He is much like a Mark Barron or Deone Buccanon.
Warner is taller than these two but his frame looks like a safety. He will likely test out with numbers like a safety in his pre-draft workouts.

This is not necessarily a bad thing for Warner unless he has his heart set on linebacker. With safety-like attributes teams may want to play him as a hybrid or move him to safety altogether.
Warner also needs to improve his tackling technique. Many times he was out of position and missed a tackle after a move by the running back.
Warner will need to impress at his workouts and pro days to improve his stock. He had a good start at the Senior Bowl but he has been slated as a day three pick.
In his article on Warner, Jon Ledyard praises his Senior Bowl week. He also states ” I expect him to excel at the combine in a month, and once he does, the top 50-75 talk for Warner should pick up considerably.”
