Many people are saying the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offseason is becoming “boring” due to the lack of headlines the team is making. Well, it isn’t that the team is lacking in controversy, it’s that they aren’t acknowledging it like they did last year.

Le’Veon Bell was top of the media’s list day-after-day for missing summer workouts. Whether or not he’d get a contract was talked about on the daily, and every media outlet wanted to dive into the if or if not situations of the scenario.

Ben Roethlisberger was also one of the major headlines making news on the daily. As everyone sat around waiting on whether he’d play or not, every Steelers’ based news source on the internet took their stab at what the quarterback was going to do.

Once he decided to continue playing, people turned their stories into “When is Ben’s career over?” pieces. This mostly consisted of when the Steelers should draft their next quarterback, and eventually, whether or not Josh Dobbs was the successor they were looking for.

This year, the questions somewhat remain the same, we’ve all just become bored of talking about them. Bell still doesn’t have a contract. He’s not attending summer workouts. And if anything, his future in Pittsburgh is even more fogged then it was a year ago.

Ben Roethlisberger says three to five more years, but everyone assumes that an exaggeration. He’s threatened by Mason Rudolph, which is understandable, but no one believes the 36-year-old Big Ben is looking at five more seasons of being the NFL’s toughest quarterback.

This one is actually making the news. Ben and Rudolph’s relationship is the hottest topic in Pittsburgh, and until the season starts, it’ll continue to make headlines.

The only difference between last year’s storylines and this year’s is the negative to positive connotation. One offseason ago, Pittsburgh has problem after problem, and people loved to talk about the distractions surrounding the team.

Today, they have a better defense, more promising offense, and seem more focused. So, outside of Bell, there is no negative news to talk about, therefore, the offseason is “boring.”

Don’t be fooled, there’s still plenty of stories out there. The team is just more ready to win, and no one wants to talk about the good things happening. But just remember, the Patriots never make headlines. And never complain about it.
