The Pittsburgh Steelers were embarrassed by the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football. Here’s what happened in their blowout loss.

It was a night to forget for Steelers fans. After a long-awaited 2019 season that saw the Pittsburgh matched up against the defending Super Bowl champions, the night didn’t exactly go as planned. They lost 33-3 in Foxborough.

The Steelers started the game with a promising defensive stop. After merely one first down, Tom Brady’s offense was forced to punt the ball. However, any signs of hope were soon flushed away.

Pittsburgh failed to move the ball on offense. As a result, they were forced to punt the ball five times. Ultimately, Ben Roethlisberger ended up with just 48 more passing yards than Jordan Berry had punting yards.

The Steelers defense was on the field often and they got utterly gassed after the first few possessions. Here’s a look at how they fared on each drive:

The Steelers couldn’t stop a nosebleed with a roll of gauze on Sunday night. Tom Brady lit up their secondary with 341 passing yards and 3 touchdowns, en route to a 124.9 passer rating.

Meanwhile, Ben failed to turn any of his drives into touchdowns. Despite throwing the ball 47 times, he managed just 276 yards and an interception.

At one point, New England had scored on five consecutive drives. This game got out of hand early, and the Steelers failed to make any meaningful adjustments.

Pittsburgh really dropped the ball on Sunday Night Football. We all knew about the Patriots record at home against Pittsburgh, but Mike Tomlin’s team didn’t do anything to make us believe that things have changed. Bill Belichick still owns the Steelers.

If these two teams meet again, it won’t be until the NFL Playoffs. Let’s hope the results are different if that comes to fruition.
