Minkah Fitzpatrick

Defensive back, Miami Dolphins

This is an obvious choice right now, as the Dolphins have recently given Fitzpatrick permission to seek a trade. The Steelers should be chomping at the bit for the opportunity to land the former 1st round pick.

Fitzpatrick was considered a blue-chip player in the 2018 NFL Draft, and Miami took him with the 11th overall pick.

What makes him such an intriguing trade candidate is his very favorable cap numbers. Fitzpatrick has three cheap years remaining on his deal, plus a fifth-year option.

The Steelers have a severe lack of depth at the safety position, and Fitzpatrick has experience playing all over the secondary. Sean Davis is in a contract year, and couldn’t seem to stay healthy this offseason. Pittsburgh could potentially groom Minkah Fitzpatrick into Davis’s eventual replacement at free safety.

Young, cheap, talented players are hard to come by. So if the Dolphins are willing to give him up (which they apparently are), the Steelers should pounce at the opportunity. Some reports indicate that Miami may deal him for as little as a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
