Fantasy Football 2020: Best waiver wire pickups after Week 2
By Andrew Falce
Chase Claypool
Chase Claypool had an impressive outing in week one, but he blew that performance out of the water during week two. He caught three passes for 88 yards, but the one that mattered was his first catch, an 84-yard scamper into the end zone. He showed great speed and the ability to beat single coverage at the line of scrimmage and could carve out more of a role as a deep threat.
Claypool will still be the fourth receiver on the depth chart, but he could carve out more of a role as the season goes on. If he builds off his early-season successes, he could eventually ascend as the third option in the offense. Regardless, I would expect his snap count to continue to climb as the season goes on. Given his size, more yards to go along with his red-zone ability could launch Claypool into low tier starting status by the end of the season.
Again, Claypool will be limited early on due to his positioning with the team. He won’t take over and be a true starter this early into the season. However, rookie receivers tend to really take off about halfway through the year. If that trend continues, Claypool could suddenly vault himself into a weekly starter conversation. Pick him up and stash him on your bench for now and hold off until you can reap the benefits.
