To many, the Steelers have been one of the surprise teams early in the season. Though they haven’t exactly faced the fiercest of competition in the first three weeks of the season, national media analysts are taking notice of their hot start.
As a result, Pittsburgh climbed up to 4th overall in NFL.com’s power rankings after their Week 2 victory against the New York Giants, and after besting the Texans at home, that is where the Steelers currently remain. There are several reasons why the media has hopped on the Pittsburgh bandwagon in recent weeks.
Ben Roethlisberger isn’t playing at an elite level, but he’s taking care of the ball and not making careless decisions. As a result, he has thrown 7 touchdowns to just 1 interception in the first three weeks of the season, and he has put his team in a position to win every football game.
The reason he doesn’t need to be quite so aggressive is because of perhaps the most talented defensive unit in football. Though the secondary has been slightly disappointing to begin the year, Pittsburgh’s front seven, led by T.J. Watt, are currently the most dominant group of defensive players in the NFL.
