Actively pursue trades in the 2021 NFL Draft

I know this isn’t like the Steelers, and they aren’t going to want to give up a ton of draft capital as they will need to fix the depth at many positions in 2021. However, Pittsburgh should be exploring opportunities to trade out of a few of their spots in the 2021 NFL Draft.

During his tenure as general manager, Kevin Colbert has never been the type of person to look to trade back in the draft. But perhaps that should change this year. Trading back could allow the Steelers to snag a few extra picks that could potentially help them out this season.

Better yet, they could trade back for some picks in next year’s draft. For example, let’s say the Steelers have the opportunity to trade one of their two fourth-round picks this year and turn it into a third-round pick in 2022. This could certainly be worth doing. Fourth-round picks typically don’t make a big impact right away, and adding another day-two pick in 2022 in addition to the compensatory formula could help give the Steelers enough firepower to go up and make a move for one of the top quarterbacks.
