Matt Canada needs more time and talent

I am legitimately excited to watch Matt Canada’s new-look offense in action this coming season. However, it would be unfair of us to expect things to run as smooth as a whistle from day one – especially considering the lack of talent Canada has to worth with.

Though Canada’s creativity could help the Steelers improve on the offensive side of the ball, the offense as a whole is likely going to be less talented than it was just a year ago, and some key players will be forced to step up their game. While Pittsburgh was able to retain JuJu Smith-Schuster, they have a lack of depth at tight end, offensive line, and running back. Any injuries to players at these positions could really set this offense back.

Matt Canada will get a chance to showcase his innovative new offense, but he probably won’t have enough tools to work with in 2021 to witness immediate results. This is something that is going to take more time and talent on offense.

The Steelers will no doubt start to take steps that will get this offense moving in the right direction, but with an older Ben Roethlisberger and essentially the same roster, it would be unfair of us to expect a big leap in offensive production in 2021.
