While some will argue that cornerback does not rank atop the list of Steelers’ needs, losing a solid starter in Steven Nelson is a blow. Even with Cameron Sutton being flexible on the outside or the inside, the team still needs a third body to start. Justin Layne isn’t it, and while James Pierre flashed, he has quite a few question marks. Thus, if the best man coverage cornerback in Caleb Farley falls to the Steelers, he is a must draft.

Farley is a former offensive player, and it shows on tape as he can read what the offense is seemingly trying to do and anticipate the next move. He has all the makings of a shutdown, ball hawk cornerback in the NFL, so if the Steelers have the chance to draft him at pick 24 they will need to jump on it. Adding Farley would be a huge win both this season and in the future ones as Joe Haden prepares to play his likely final season in Pittsburgh.

The only issue with Farley is his medical history. He had minor back surgery this offseason so his readiness for training camp isn’t certain. That said, even if it takes him half a season to get on the field, drafting him would be well worth it. He is a major talent at a position of need. If his injury pushes him down to pick 24, the team would be wise to add him to their roster.
