5 draft prospects for Steelers that no one is talking about
By Andrew Falce
Shaun Wade
There may not have been a player that suffered a worse draft stock dip this past season than Shaun Wade. The former Ohio St. corner was seen as a potential top-ten pick a year ago before having a below-average season. Reports are that he was playing through turf toe, which may have explained why he looked so much less athletic, but there are certainly questions about his coverage skills. Now, Wade is projected to land somewhere in the third to fourth round.
With the Steelers in need of a slot cornerback, Wade could end up being a great fit. There seems to be some doubt that he can last on the outside but playing in the slot seems more natural. Even more so, there are some analysts projecting a move to safety altogether. If he can find a home in the slot though, Wade makes too much sense as a mid-round pick.
What helps is that the Steelers had Tomlin and Colbert at his pro day. They got to see firsthand him test better than most thought he would which may have aided the reports that Wade played through turf toe last year. If the team passes on the earlier cornerbacks, adding Wade with one of their fourths is a logical move. The team loves Ohio St. as evident by their heavy presence at their pro day. There really should be a bigger link between the team and Wade.
While the usual names are the ones being talked about for the Steelers, there are quite a few that make more sense. All of the names on this list have obvious links to the team and fill needs. Don’t be surprised to hear one of their names called in lieu of a name more commonly attached to the Steelers in this draft.
