3 free-agent targets Steelers fans want, but won’t sign
The Pittsburgh Steelers should have interest in these fan-favorite free-agent options, but it is unlikely they add any of these names.
The Steelers have a little cap wiggle room to add before the season begins. There is not a lot of spending money available but it seems like they could potentially add one of these names still left out in the open waters of free agency before the pre-season wraps up. Pittsburgh still has glaring needs at depth outside linebacker, left tackle, and cornerback.
There are some decent names out there that could potentially fit the bill and fans have this idea of seeing at least one of these names on the Steelers roster sooner rather than later. Pittsburgh normally refuses to go fishing in the free agency pond at this time of year but it could happen the longer these veterans sit on the open market and their price decreases.
Russel Okung, Offensive tackle
Russel Okung would be a great veteran addition to this young offensive line group. He would not only add leadership and experience but he would also add a starting-caliber left tackle for the Steelers. At the very least Okung would provide great competition for the starting left tackle spot in training camp. Fans want to see this happen but it seems less likely to occur after Okung tweeted out the “team doesn’t have enough money to sign him”.
The player has prior connections with the team in free agency over past years but he is still seeking the money as free agency continues to play out. As time passes, it is possible that this signing could become more of an option later on.
