The Steelers need to find a replacement to succeed the legendary Tunch Ilkin, lucky for them there are a ton of options.

Tunch Ilkin has spent many decades under the employment of the Steelers and that has finally come to an end as he just announced his retirement. The legendary man has helped call momentous moments in Pittsburgh football history alongside his broadcast partner, Bill Hillgrove.

Ilkin first burst onto the scene for fans as a player and eventually transitioned into the play-calling booth once his playing days were over. He was diagnosed with ALS in October of 2020 and that health reason is why he retired. It was an amazing career with Ilkin and one many fans will never forget as they grew up listening to him making the calls on the radio for their favorite team. Everyone is behind Ilkin in his fight to defeat this terrible disease as the man is even better than his great career with the black and gold.

Honorable Mentions

There could be a ton of honorable mentions on this list as the Steelers alumni are extremely talented outside of football. There could be many different options to come in and be hired in the booth but there are some that stand out more than others. These people did not make the list but they could be hired when it is all said and done. Some of those names could include Arthur Moats, Bob Labriola, Mike Prisuta, and Hines Ward.

All of them have connections to the black and gold. Some have played football professionally while others have been employed by the Steelers in a wide arrange of roles. All of those above would be nice additions alongside Hillgrove if the franchise decides to go in any of these directions. The most interesting name above would be Ward as he is a football legend around here and has previous commentary experience. He has been focused on coaching as a post-NFL career but this would be a great get for Pittsburgh.
