Steelers 4 biggest mistakes this offseason that are cause for concern
The Pittsburgh Steelers had a lot of turnover this offseason and some of those decisions could be major mistakes
There were many players lost via free agency and retirement over the past couple of months for the Steelers. They still have many question marks across this team that need to become positive contributors to their efforts. If they fail to do that then this squad will have major issues throughout the season to cope with.
Many free agents were starters for this team that have moved on. Players like Mike Hilton, Bud Dupree, Al Villanueva, and others. Many knew that this team would have some major turnover once the 2020 season concluded but the team has made mistakes with how they handled finding replacements. Not every person is perfect and even though the black and gold front office is one of the best in the league, they are not impervious to make conundrums.
Not finding a way to keep Steven Nelson
Steven Nelson and Joe Haden were one of the top cornerback duos in the NFL over the past couple of seasons. Both were heading into their final contract year with the Steelers and many expected at least one of them to sign a contract extension during this offseason. Pittsburgh had a different idea and released Nelson to save some cap money instead of doing a restructure of a contract or having him sign a contract extension. The ending between the two parties was somewhat ugly and unexpected, which lead to many fans questioning what was going on with this front office. Not only was the release of this talented player an issue but the lack of finding a replacement is another problem.
