Steelers Safeties (5)

Minkah Fitzpatrick, Terrell Edmunds, Antoine Brooks, Arthur Maulet, Miles Killebrew

Looking over this group, if the Steelers only keep five safeties, it will likely look like this as of now. Minkah Fitzpatrick and Terrell Edmunds will resume their roles as starters. Important to note is that Edmunds is entering the final year of his rookie season, so there is a real chance that they look to get another strong safety more involved. That would likely be Antoine Brooks, as he is the next best strong safety on the roster and played ok in the very limited playing time he had as a rookie.

Miles Killebrew isn’t safe by any means given his overall play, but like Mondeaux before, he makes the team based solely on his special team’s play. While he can also play as a linebacker in some cases, the team currently has him listed as a safety, thus his placement here. Unless a noted special teams’ demon is brought in, such as Jordan Dangerfield, then Killibrew likely makes the squad in 2021.

The last spot goes to hybrid slot/free safety Arthur Maulet. He has some starting experience and provides some versatility to this group. Again, he could be listed as a corner, but his first job with the team would be as a backup free safety. He beats out Tre Norwood (the only rookie to not make this roster) as I have not been impressed with his tape. He has the least secure spot of all the safeties though, and he certainly isn’t a lock to make the team. As well, with the interest the Steelers have shown in free-agent free safeties, a veteran from another team could easily end up on the team.
