WR Chase Claypool

Of the names on this list, Chase Claypool is already the most proven (despite the fact that he has just one year under his belt). However, I have to include him on this list of players rapidly trending up. While Diontae Johnson has been impressive at creating separation early in training camp, both he and JuJu Smith-Schuster have missed a few opportunities and have at least one big drop each.

In addition to being the most consistent wide receiver at Steelers training camp so far, Claypool has also been the most impressive. The second-year wideout mainly gets matched up against Cameron Sutton in one-on-ones. While Sutton has had some terrific coverage, Claypool has pulled down some very difficult catches.

In fact, I would argue that Claypool has been one of the most impressive players on either side of the ball for Pittsburgh early in training camp. This shouldn’t come as a major surprise, as Claypool is coming off a terrific rookie season. However, it’s worth noting.

If he continues in this direction, he will have a chance to truly develop into a number one receiver for Pittsburgh in the future.
