Hines Ward, Wide Receiver

Hines Ward is a beloved Steelers legend that could make it into the Hall of Fame someday. It will take a long time before the smiling receiver ever gets close to the final voting. He has been a semi-finalist for the past handful of years and that seems promising. His friend, Alan Faneca campaigned for Ward to make it into the historical society during his induction speech. Ward played a physical game while football became more favorable to offenses in the NFL. His numbers are not bad but other players had better numbers during their respective playing days. He leads the franchise for many receiving accolades when compared to the franchise itself but not the league.

The Hall of Fame requirement is difficult to judge for every player. They look for both team and individual accolades during their playing days. Ward has the team awards with two Super Bowl victories but his lack of individual awards is where the problems arise. He was only elected to the Pro Bowl four times in his career and nominated only three times for Second-Team All-Pro honors. He did win a Super Bowl MVP, so that helps his cause some but it is not enough. Ward could make it into the Hall of Fame at some point but it seems more likely that he will just be immortalized as a Steelers legend at this point.
