Steelers WR Chase Claypool: 78 overall

I know Chase Claypool has plenty of things he needs to work on and he’s had some issues with drops this summer. However, it’s hard to justify just a 78 overall rating – especially considering that his athletic score alone should boost this up.

In comparison to other wide receivers on the team, Claypool is expectedly ahead of James Washington (74 overall), but trails JuJu Smith-Schuster (86) and Diontae Johnson (81). For most people, it’s a debate as to which Steelers receiver is the best, and I’m not sure that JuJu’s 2020 performance warrants him being rated 8 points higher than Claypool this year.

Comparing him to wide receivers from other teams on Madden 22, Claypool has the same overall grade as Packers Devin Funchess and Broncos Tim Patrick, while his grade is lower than Tyrell Williams and a 33-year-old, injury-prone A.J. Green.

Claypool still has lots of room for improvement, but his value to Pittsburgh’s offense last year was undeniable and he could potentially take a big jump in 2021.
