Safeties (4): Minkah Fitzpatrick, Terrell Edmunds, Miles Killebrew, Tre Norwood

I think the safety position is pretty straightforward this year, thanks to a severe lack of competition behind the starters. Minkah Fitzpatrick and Terrell Edmunds will essentially never leave the field, but if an injury occurs, this group gets really concerning in a hurry.

Backing up Fitzpatrick is 7th round rookie Tre Norwood. While Norwood impressed at times this summer, he’s been very inconsistent as well, and I thought he had a pretty bad game in the preseason finale. Still, he’s better than the alternatives, so I think he makes the roster.

Miles Killebrew looks set to backup Edmunds at strong safety. Killebrew is a veteran who has been around the league for a while but has really never been anything more than a special teams stud. He’s expected to do most of his damage here, assuming Edmunds stays healthy.

This is another position I believe the team could look to upgrade following cuts – specifically backup-free safety. The team could get Norwood on the practice squad if an opportunity arose to improve Minkah’s backup this year. Norwood could contribute down the line, but he’s probably not the player we want starting in a pinch.
