Steelers Cornerback Arthur Maulet

Arthur Maulet barely made this team, as the player had a primed opportunity to become the starting slot-corner coming out of the preseason.

He is playing for the defense in certain packages, but that does not mean he could be released in certain scenarios. Karl Joseph was brought onto the practice squad, and the rumor is that he will eventually be elevated to the roster sometime in the future. Joseph has also been rumored to be playing in a slot role and other packages for the defense in 2021.

Maulet should be concerned about that going forward not just for his playing time but also his roster spot.

It will be interesting to see what the Steelers do with Maulet if or when they bring Joseph onto the 53-man roster. Maulet could always stick around with his NFL experience, but that has not helped his play much so far. He struggled during the preseason and hasn’t garnered enough playing time to show a reasonable impact for what he was brought in for.

He could always stick around, but the black and gold seem to have him as the odd man out whenever another defensive back joins the team this year. The secondary is strong with its starters, currently, but the depth behind them is scarce, especially in that primed slot role.

Maybe another corner could be the first to go, but Maulet just seems like a big candidate if the team decides to go in another direction with another player.
