Steelers LB Devin Bush

Many NFL analysts were optimistic that Devin Bush would be able to have a breakout campaign in 2021 after suffering an ACL tear just five games into the 2020 season. However, Bush’s performance was much worse than anyone could have anticipated.

Prior to his injury, Bush struggled with consistency, but he at least played with aggression and a motor to chase down the ball carrier. This past season, he didn’t even do that. When Bush was making tackles, it was typically 7-10 yards past the line of scrimmage.

There wasn’t a single area of Bush’s game that could have been considered ‘good’ this year. He was completely washed out of plays against the run, and always seemed to be a step behind in pass coverage.

While Pittsburgh certainly shouldn’t be confident enough to hand him the fifth-year option this offseason, we at least have a glimmer of hope that he can turn things around with another year removed from the ACL injury. 2022 will truly be a make-or-break season that could shape the rest of Devin Bush’s career — whether that will be in Pittsburgh or somewhere else after next season.
