Steelers could trade for Love

With Aaron Rodgers’ confirmed return to Green Bay in 2022, Jordan Love becomes a trade candidate for obvious reasons. The Packers spent the 26th overall pick on the Utah State quarterback in 2020, and he has already spent his first two years on the bench.

When Love has seen the field, the results haven’t been favorable, and he hasn’t exactly wowed anyone in the organization. Still, Love is just 23 years old with a big arm and plus athleticism. Though he’s still a work in progress, the door is not completely closed on him developing into a franchise quarterback.

If the Steelers traded with Green Bay for their backup quarterback, Love would likely compete with Mason Rudolph for the starting gig in 2022. Even if he begins the season as the backup, it doesn’t mean that all is lost, as Love still has two years and a fifth-year option remaining on his rookie deal.

Now that the Packers have almost no incentive to keep Love around (as Rodgers will likely finish out his career in Green Bay), the asking price should be quite reasonable. Some teams might even like Love better than the quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh could roll the dice and spend less draft capital than they would otherwise this year.
