Most fans have a player in mind that they would love for Pittsburgh, but here’s the biggest dream scenario the Steelers can hope for on draft day.

Over the past few months, I’ve heard Steelers fans mention dozens of names that they would like to see Pittsburgh end up with in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Some are obviously more realistic than others, but what would be the biggest dream scenario for the organization?

Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert are clearly infatuated with the quarterbacks this year, and I would be surprised at this point if the Steelers take anything other than a QB in round one. Still, perhaps there are is a player out there that could persuade them to go in a different direction.

Pittsburgh has no shortage of needs. While they clearly need to begin the hunt for their next franchise quarterback, it’s hard to warrant spending elite draft capital on one in such a lackluster QB class.

Overall, most analysts would agree that the 2022 NFL Draft isn’t very strong, but there might just be a generational prospect or two among the bunch.

This year’s draft includes a remarkably rare talent that we only see come around once in a decade, and landing him would be a dream scenario for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jordan Davis is the dream for Steelers

Most football fans are very familiar with Jordan Davis at this point. The former Georgia Bulldogs star was the anchor on one of the most impressive defensive lines we have ever seen. After being a crucial part of a group that surrendered just 2.7 yards per carry to opposing offenses, Georgia went on to win the National Championship in 2021.

Some teams view Davis as a two-down run-stuffer at the next level and a guy that they would want to take off the field on third downs. Though rushing the passer may not be his forte, it’s something I think he will be able to do in the NFL.

For the Steelers, there is no better dream than landing a player like this. The Steelers had the worst run defense in the entire league last season — surrendering 143.8 rushing yards per game (32nd) and allowing 5.0 yards per attempt (32nd), according to Team Rankings.

Adding an unmovable anchor like Jordan Davis would clearly change that. At 6’6 3/8” and 341 pounds, Davis somehow manages to play stronger than his size, and he can’t be moved off the ball. On top of his unreal size, length, and strength, Davis is a generational athlete at the DT position — running a 4.78 40-yard dash and posting a remarkable 10’3” broad jump.

These numbers give me a ton of confidence that Davis could easily be a three-down player at the next level, as he’s lacking nothing. Adding a player like Jordan Davis in the NFL Draft could instantly fix Pittsburgh’s biggest weakness from the 2021 season and immediately get this unit back on track as one of the best in the league.

Obviously, landing Davis seems like a pipe dream as there are some DL-needy teams selecting ahead of Pittsburgh.

Still, no player makes as much sense or would be a better fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers this year than Jordan Davis. He’s a generational talent on the defensive line who could anchor this defense for the next decade. Davis isn’t realistic at pick 20… but we can dream.
