Steelers should sign Cohen

One of the Steelers biggest needs heading into the draft was finding a capable backup running back, and they left the draft without having filled that need. Beyond Najee Harris, this running back room is pretty desolate. If he were to miss any time, this group would likely be limited. Considering the offense is seemingly set to run through him, having a capable group of reserves is vital.

A name I have been throwing around since before the draft is former Bears back Tarik Cohen. While undersized as a runner, Cohen has insane speed and agility and is known for making the first man miss. Add in his ability in the passing game, as one could argue he is a better receiver than running back, and you have a dynamic reserve that the team could use along with Harris.

My main issue with Cohen now is that his role is kind of being occupied by fourth-round pick Calvin Austin right now. Sure, Austin is a receiver, but his size and speed along with his ability as a gadget player make him a potential solution here. As well, Cohen has had health struggles, which is why the Bears cut him. I’m doubtful he could handle a full load if Harris missed time. That said, he would be a fun and dynamic addition to this offense.
