Safeties (4)

Minkah Fitzpatrick, Terell Edmunds, Damontae Kazee, Miles Killebrew

How can anyone not like Pittsburgh’s safeties in 2022? Minkah Fitzpatrick returns, as does Terell Edmunds. There was much speculation if Edmunds would return to the Steelers. Many suspected the Steelers might opt for a safety, possibly Kyle Hamilton, if Edmunds didn’t return. There was a rumor the Steelers might trade up to get Hamilton while keeping their 20th pick. That never happened, and they did not take a safety in the lower rounds. They probably re-signed Edmunds very close to the draft allowing them to focus elsewhere in the draft.

Edmunds was the biggest surprise in that the Steelers re-signed him despite apparently having other offers on the table. Either he did not get what he was looking for, or he thinks playing one more season for Pittsburgh might help him get a higher contract elsewhere. Regardless, fans will not complain that he returned.

While Edmunds may not be the flashiest player out there nor a game-changer, Minkah Fitzpatrick has that honor. Add in Killebrew and Kazee, and the Steelers have the most solid group of safeties in the NFL heading into 2022. The Steelers secondary should be as good as they were in 2021.
