Wide Receivers (6)

Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, George Pickens, Calvin Austin, Miles Boykin

The Steelers lost a lot of talent when JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Washington, and Ray-Ray Mclound switched teams. When the Steelers did not address the position through free agency, they would take someone in the draft. In this case, George Pickens and Calvin Austin were the selections. Both are solid picks, and both are a lock to make the team.

The Steelers have Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool returning; they will be the clear number one and two receivers until we see how  Austin and Pickens perform. Also, it is looking apparent that Claypool will be the slot receiver this season.

Miles Boykin was the only signing in which you had to scratch your head and ask what they were thinking. His 2019 and 2020 seasons were fair, but nothing special, and the Ravens never used him in 2021 and thus cut him. What the Steelers see in him is unclear. Nevertheless, he should make the final cut. It’s doubtful they cut him before the season starts. Anthony Miller and Steve Sims, Tyler Vaughns, and Cody White seem to be the likely victims of cuts when the downsizing to the 53-man roster begins.
